Rubber contact urticaria

چکیده
To compare the Immediate skm test reactivity ofvanous latex (natural rubber) surgical and cleanmg gloves, pnck tests were performed on 40 latex-allergic persons, 26 of whom were sensitized by surgical and 14 by cleanmg latex gloves. 6/17 surgical gloves tested and 1/2 cleanmg gloves caused positive reactions m almost all (over 87%) of the allergic subjects. In contrast, the frequencies of positive reactions to 4 other surg~callatex gloves were as low as 8-21%, suggesting that not all surgical gloves are equally allergemc. Control pnck tests with I synthetic rubber and I polyvmyl chlonde (PVC) glove were negative m all subjects. 2 surgical latex gloves causmg either a high or low number of positive pnck tests m allergic subjects were analyzed with high-pressure liqmd chromatography (HPLC). Similar allergemc protem fractions were detected, which showed protem peaks at MW 2000, 5000 and 30000 daltons. Corresponding protems were detected m I latex cleanmg glove analyzed and m natural rubber. Thts result confirms that allergemc protems persist m vanous surgical and cleamng latex gloves after manufacture from natural rubber and may cause contact urtlcana symptoms m sensitized people.

Occupational contact urticaria caused by polyvinylchloride gloves.
Allergy to natural rubber latex (NRL) gloves in healthcare workers is well recognized, and usually presents as immunological contact urticaria and sometimes anaphylaxis. Latex gloves can also cause allergic contact dermatitis, mostly because of rubber accelerators. As latex sensitivity is well known in healthcare settings, synthetic latex-free gloves are widely used. The most popular latexfree ...

Hypersensitivity to rubber is usually reported as contact dermatitis due to substances used in its processing; however, recent reports in patients attribute IgE mediated reactions specifically to latex and not to chemical additives. These patients were first seen with contact urticaria, but tissue contact with both medical and non-medical latex rubber may also precipitate anaphylactic reactions...

Among contact dermatosis, irritant contact dermatitis and allergic eczema are by far the most frequent. Nevertheless, concerning occupational dermatosis, contact urticaria should be not neglected. Allergy to natural rubber latex is well-known; however, many other substances found in catering jobs and in jobs involving close contact with animals or vegetables can cause allergies. Discrete forms ...

Background Contact urticaria in atopic patients was described by Hannuksela [1], among others, in 1980. It generally appears within 30 min of allergen contact and, in the majority of cases, is restricted to the areas of contact; however, local spread and generalized urticaria in the sense of anaphylaxis are seen. Allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma may also subsequently occur [2]. Von Krogh...

BACKGROUND Occupational contact dermatitis is common in healthcare workers. Although irritant contact dermatitis resulting from wet work is the most frequently reported cause, healthcare workers also constitute high-risk group for the development of allergic contact dermatitis and contact urticaria. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the prevalence of delayed-type and immediate-type hypersensitivity in 1...

Natural rubber latex (NRL) allergy has attained world-wide importance with the diagnosis of glove hypersensitivity, contact urticaria, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, asthma and anaphylaxis. In the present report, the latest literature of the epidemiology of NRL allergy is reviewed, an account on the incidence of NRL allergy (19 new cases of contact urticaria/100,000 workers per year) among health ca...
